SIDNEY — The Sidney-Shelby County Health Department has announced that it will administer flu vaccinations by appointment in its offices, 202 W. Poplar St.

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practice has recommended that vaccinations be given by the end of October, particularly to the following: all children aged 6 through 59 months; all persons 50 and older; adults and children who have chronic pulmonary (including asthma) or cardiovascular (except isolated hypertension), renal, hepatic, neurologic, hematologic or metabolic disorders (including diabetes mellitus); persons who have immunosuppression (including immunosuppression caused by medications or by HIV infection); women who are or will be pregnant during the influenza season; children and adolescents 6 months to 18 years who are receiving long-term aspirin therapy and who might be at risk for experiencing Reye syndrome after influenza virus infection; residents of nursing homes and other long-term care facilities; American Indians and Alaska natives and persons who are extremely obese.

The committee recommends routine annual flu shots for all persons older than 6 months who do not have contraindications.

The health department now accepts most insurances. Insurance cards must be presented at time of visit. If not covered by insurance, the following fees apply: $35, children 18 and younger; $35, adults 19 and older; $45, senior high dose for adults 65 and older.
