SIDNEY — The Shelby County OSU Alumni Association will team up with the Farm Bureau Women’s Committee and Community Blood Center to co-sponsor the Thanksgiving week “Shelby County Buckeye Blood Drive” Tuesday, Nov. 21, from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at American Legion Post 217, 1265 N. Fourth St., Sidney. Donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment online at www.DonorTime.com or call 800-388-GIVE.

Everyone who registers to donate will receive the CBC “Buckeye Blood Donor” football T-shirt and the Farm Bureau Women’s Committee will serve hot sandwiches and homemade cookies in the Donor Café. New this year is the “Buckeye Blood Drive” theme by the OSU Alumni Association members.

“The Shelby County OSU Alumni plans to provide delicious edible Buckeyes for all donors along with OSU Buckeye themed door prizes given away every 30 minutes,” said Alumni Association member Roger Bender. “For parents with young children, please plan to donate while the kids participate in fun activities with OSU Alumni members on hand throughout the day. Please plan to ‘Pay forward’ as legendary Woody Hayes often said.”

The “Buckeye Blood Donor” campaign celebrates Ohio State vs. Michigan rivalry week and the drive for football championships that peak during the Thanksgiving weekend. Everyone who registers to donate Monday, Nov. 6 through Saturday, Dec. 9, at a CBC Donor Center and most CBC mobile blood drives will receive the “Buckeye Blood Donor” T-shirt. The gray T-shirt features a scarlet and gray football helmet with the map of Ohio and the CBC blood drop as the helmet emblem.

Thanksgiving begins the holiday season, a challenging time for maintaining the area blood supply. If you must miss an appointment to donate please reschedule when you can. The CBC especially encourages the continued support of type O whole blood donors and type A/B platelet and plasma donors.
