SIDNEYY — Sollmann Electric Company apprentice David VanHook, of Sidney, is the recipient of the Trimmer Construction Foundation Build Your Future Scholarship.

Scholarship applications were submitted to the national Associated Builders and Contractors from chapters all over the United States. VanHook was one of 10 who received a $2,000 scholarship to use toward his electrical apprenticeship tuition. The application process was very competitive. Applicants with the most thoughtful essays received scholarships.

VanHook was hired in April 2017 as a first year apprentice. He will be starting the technical instruction portion of his apprenticeship this fall through the Ohio Valley Construction Education Foundation/Associated Builders and Contractors Ohio Valley Chapter. The apprenticeship program is a state and national certified apprenticeship program which requires the apprentice to complete 576 hours of related technical instruction and 8,000 on-the-job training hours.

The program takes approximately four years and upon completion, VanHook will be recognized as a qualified journeyperson electrician with the Ohio State Apprenticeship Council of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training.
