Holiday Shop Hop planned for Sidney

SIDNEY — The Angels in the Attic Craft Show, Sidney Visitors Bureau, Sidney Alive, and the Sidney-Shelby County Chamber of Commerce are collaborating to organize a “Shop Hop” to specialty stores and boutiques in the Sidney area. The event will be held Nov 8-11.

The Shop Hop will run in conjunction with the Angels in the Attic Craft Show, a once-a-year event held at the Ross Historical Center in downtown Sidney. The Shop Hop has been developed as a incentive to increase shopping traffic early in the holiday shopping season to local retail establishments.

“The credit for conceiving the local Shop Hop goes to Darla Cabe, long time organizer of the Angels in the Attic Craft Show,” said Jeff Raible with the Sidney Visitors Bureau. “Darla approached me at the Visitors Bureau wanting to see if there was a way to keep local shoppers in town longer than just the time they spent at the craft show. In years past she witnessed 1,000 plus people visiting Angels and the Attic and thought there must be a way for our local businesses to leverage the success of the craft show in a way that would add foot traffic to their specialty shops.

“After Darla and I met to frame out a general concept, involving Sidney Alive seemed like a natural fit and Amy Breinich was enthusiastic about getting the local downtown businesses involved,” he said.

Sidney Alive Executive Director Amy Breinich said she’s excited to see the specialty stores and boutiques participate in the program.

“Our county has some fantastic, unique retail shops and this Shop Hop will be a fun way to explore all they have to offer,” she said. “Partnering with other businesses and organizations is how a community excels and we are excited to partner with Angels in the Attic, Sidney Visitors Bureau, the Sidney-Shelby County Chamber of Commerce, and the retail shops on this event! We are proud of our growing retail community and look forward to adding even more stops to next year’s Shop Hop!”

Cabe said the event will give Angels in the Attic visitors an opportunity to visit other local businesses.

“This is a fun way to visit the great boutiques and shops we have in the Sidney area. It is also a great way to support local businesses and artists. There is a lot of variety of shops so there is definitely something that will interest everyone,” said Cabe. “Friends can make a day of visiting the different shops together or spread it out over the four days and visit a few shops each day. Most of the shops are having special sales, offering complimentary refreshments and extending their hours for this first time event.

“I must admit, I’m a little sad that I can’t win the grand prize,” she said . “it’s a great package valued at over $400 from some of my favorite stores in Sidney and Anna.”

Here’s how it works. Shoppers are to pick up a Shop Hop card at any participating specialty store or boutique. To be eligible for the grand prize drawing, shoppers are required to visit a minimum of 10 specialty shops of the 16 shops participating between Nov. 8 and Nov. 11. At each shop visited, the customer’s Shop Hop card will be stamped with a distinct mark. Once the customer has visited the minimum number of shops required, they will turn in their Shop Hop card and be entered into a drawing for the grand prize valued at $400.
