SIDNEY – No drugs, no firearms, no alcohol, and no politics.

That’s the mantra for the Fourth Annual Honoring Our Veterans Native American Gathering that will be held at the Shelby County Fair Grounds on Aug. 22 and 23.

The gates are open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The grand entry, a parade of participants in full Native American regalia, will take place at noon each day.

The event is free and open to the public. There’s free admission, free parking, and free primitive camping. There is a $10 fee for electric. Attendees are asked to bring lawn chairs. They have restrooms and showers on site, and night lighting for late night dancing.

The host drum will be Southern Singers and the co-host drum is Chaska Hotain. The head dancers will be Oran Baumeister and Shawnee Waters. Aaron Stevens is the emcee. The arena director is Mike Parks and the head veteran is Shawn Reilly. Chained Eagles of Ohio will be a special guest.

There will be silent auctions, raffles and 50/50 drawings. All proceeds will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project.

There will be dancing, drumming, singing, food vendors and Native American vendors on site. There is a vendor fee of $50 for a 10 by 10 space. Anything bigger will be $60.

There will be a Native American food vendor from New Mexico serving Navajo fry bread, Navajo Indian tacos, green chili and corn soup, along with hamburgers & hot dogs and refreshments.

For more information or to register as a vendor, call Melissa Lusk at 419-233-1605 or George Reiter at 513-375-5186.
