Search warrant yields two arrests

SIDNEY — Two people were arrested following the execution of a narcotics search warrant Wednesday, Dec. 21.

According to the Sidney Police Department, Randy S. Hurst, 54, of 433 E. Poplar St., and Valerie K. Cartwright, 37, of 433 E. Poplar St., were arrested. Hurst has been charged with one count of drug possession, a felony of the fifth degree, and one count of criminal tools, a felony of the fifth degree. Cartwright has been charged with one count of drug abuse, a misdemeanor of the first degree, and obstructing official business, a misdemeanor of the second degree.

At approximately 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, officers from the Sidney & Piqua Police Tactical Response Team executed the narcotics search warrant at 433 E. Poplar St., Sidney Ohio. Tactical officers made entry into the residence and secured it from potential threats so investigators from both Sidney and Piqua could search for narcotics and narcotic related instruments. During the search detectives recovered methamphetamine, marijuana,and drug paraphernalia. There were two children discovered living in residence.

Both Hurst and Cartwright were transported to the Shelby County Jail.

The warrant was a result of lengthy investigation by Sidney Narcotics Investigators and tips provided by the public. This warrant execution is a continuing effort by the Sidney Police Department to combat drug abuse and drug trafficking in Sidney.
