Inmate transported to Miami Valley Hospital

SIDNEY — The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is currently looking into a medical emergency involving one of their inmates that occurred in the Medical Unit at the Jail. This inmate was arrested by the Shelby County Probation Department on a probation violation and brought to the Shelby County Jail on Monday, Jan. 8, 2018.

According to Shelby County Sheriff John Lenhart, Curtis Chrisman, 36, of Anna, was booked into the jail at 3:21 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 8; and was placed into the medical unit due to his medical condition. At 8:36 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9, the staff at the Shelby County Jail was removing a food tray from the Chrisman’s medical cell, when the Corrections Officer noticed the breathing of the inmate was abnormal. The Corrections Office immediately went into the cell, summoned the nurse, who was a few feet away and they started a medical assessment and treatment. The Sidney Fire & Rescue transported the inmate to Wilson Health.

At this time Chrisman has been transported to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.

The situation is under investigation to determine if this was a medical emergency or some other cause.
