SIDNEY — At its board meeting June 25, the Midwest Regional Educational Service Center, which provides educational services to schools in Hardin, Logan and Shelby counties, hired two highly experienced administrators.
To be the director of curriculum and instruction, the ESC hired Dave Shellhaas. Shellhaas has a long history of providing curriculum support throughout the state of Ohio. He was most recently the director of curriculum for math and science at Piqua City Schools.
Prior to that, Shellhaas spent 14 years as a curriculum specialist for the Darke County Educational Service Center. He developed and wrote the text and course work for an integrated high school science course titled “Science in Society.”
Shellhaas is on the Science Review Board for the Ohio Resource Center and has served on many state level science review and advisory boards. He also has written 35 science trade book titles for children in grades kindergarten through second. Shellhaas has a Bachelor of Science from Wright State University and a Master of Science from the University of Dayton.
In a newly created position, that includes both gifted education coordination and curriculum support, the ESC employed Cathryn Petticrew as the director of student achievement. Petticrew comes to the ESC after four years of being the elementary principal at the Mechanicsburg District at Dohron Wilson Elementary. She completed her Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education at Wright State University as well as her Master Degree in Education and reading endorsement.
Petticrew has presented at conferences at the state level including the SOAR Principal’s Academy, at the State Board of Education, Connect for Success and Battelle for Kids. Topics she is versed in are the Third Grade Guarantee, utilizing formative instructional practices to increase student achievement, standards-based grading practices and much more.
