FORT LORAMIE — A new principal, a new guidance counselor and three new teachers will greet Fort Loramie Local Schools students when they return to the classroom Aug. 19.

Kreg Hollenbacher is now the principal of Fort Loramie High School; Katie Francis is a high school guidance counselor; Gerogia Gaier will teach seventh- and eighth-grade math; Jodi Wenning will teach seventh- and eighth-grade language arts and Ryan Goldschmit will teach business and computer and elementary computer classes.

According to Superintendent Dan Holland, about 855 students will fill the schools in grades K-12, a number that is “consistent with prior years,” he said.

When those kids get to school, they’ll see that while they were on summer vacation, workers completed an LED lighting project at the high school. They also upgraded athletic facilities and resealed parking lots.

Shelly Barhorst will head a new program, Career Connections. The Workforce Partnership of Shelby County and local businesses updated the high school’s media center and will offer four Workforce Academy classes there.

Lunch prices this year will be $2.75 for children in junior high and high school; $2.60 for elementary school children.

The schedule pick-up days for Fort Loramie students will be Aug. 17 and 18, from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3 p.m. Students are asked to pick up their schedules, agendas and other forms and return all completed forms on the first day of school.

Upper Valley Career Center students should pick up their schedules at the UVCC, Aug. 13 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. or Aug. 18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The first day of classes at UVCC will be Aug. 21 for all new students and Aug. 24 for all returning students.

UVCC students who wish to ride the bus from Fort Loramie will need to meet at the high school by 7:45 a.m. The bus will load outside the north entrance to the building.

An open house will be at Fort Loramie Elementary andr Junior/Senior High, Aug. 17, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Parents and students are encouraged to go to meet their teachers, check out the building and pick up information that will be provided by the teachers. Both buildings will be open for tours.

Any season athletic tickets which have been bought may be picked up at the athletic office in the high school during the open house. Tickets also will be for sale during the open house.
