Schlater scholarships announced

SIDNEY — Recipients of the 2016 Herbert and Antoinette Schlater Scholarship have been named.

The $2,500 scholarships are awarded to the children of employees of Sidney Electric Co. and Area Energy and Electric Inc.

Connor Thobe, a graduate of Lehman Catholic High School and son of Dean and Rebecca Thobe, of Sidney, attends the Ohio State University, where he majors in economics and law. His father is employed by Area Energy and Electric Inc.

Benjamin McClain, a graduate of Sidney High School, is the son of Bill and Darlene McClain, of Sidney. Bill is an employee of Sidney Electric Co. Benjamin attends the University of Cincinnati, where he studies construction management.

The scholarship fund was created by Herbert and Antoinette Schlater, who were the founders of both the Sidney Electric Co. and Area Energy and Electric Inc. in Sidney. The scholarship fund is administered by the Community Foundation of Shelby County.

Online applications are available through the Community Foundation website at www.commfoun.com beginning mid-December each year.
