Foundation opens scholarship application

SIDNEY — The 2017 Community Foundation of Shelby County combined scholarship application is now open at www.commfoun.com.

The online application is the gateway to 110 local scholarships totaling more than $183,000 in one-time and renewable awards.

“Several individuals, families and civic groups are giving students an opportunity to better afford a college education,” said Marian Spicer, Foundation executive director. “I encourage local high school seniors, current college students and adults returning to the classroom to complete the application soon.”

Some scholarships are for students graduating from a defined high school and others are county-wide. Certain scholarships are for students with a specific major or who meet other qualifying factors. Students need to complete only one form to access the various scholarship awards.

Added to this year’s application are several new scholarship awards that will benefit students in Anna, Botkins, Fort Loramie and Sidney.

“We encourage students to begin compiling their lists of activities, transcripts, the FAFSA.gov EFC number and requesting recommendation letters now, even though most scholarships have a deadline of Feb. 15,” said Spicer. “The online application can be started and then completed in future sessions, but incomplete applications will be rejected if not finished by the deadline. It will take an hour or more to complete the application, not counting the time it will take to collect required documents and data.”

The Community Foundation’s website has information and tips on a Frequently Asked Questions page to assist students completing the form.
