ANNA — Bob Anderson, former teacher and coach in Anna Local Schools, gave the keynote address during the Anna Education Foundation banquet, April 20, at the Shelby Oaks.
In addition to the schools, Anderson has held leadership positions within the village of Anna, his church, and community service organizations. More than 275 people were present to recognize and honor Anna alumni, local leaders, and students.
The McRill Leadership Awards were presented to Catherine Vasko for her many hours of volunteering in the Anna School system and to Kelsey Meyer, for her many leadership roles at Anna High School.
The Foundation recognized alumnus Dustin Homan, of the class of 2007. He talked of his experiences at Anna High School and encouraged the senior scholarship recipients to “be curious” during their college experience.
The following 2017 scholarship winners were awarded more than $54,000;
Nathan Osborne, the $8,000 Marvin Staley Scholarship; Owen Michael and Claire Spicer, the $8,000 Donald Bensman Scholarships; Baylee Sommer, the $1,000 Amy Zorn and the $2,000 Class of 1983 scholarships; Alisha Holtzapple, the $2,000 Harshbarger Memorial and the $1,000 Fred and Joyce Wells scholarships; Briana Fanaff, the $2,000 Julie Richey Scholarship; Krista Gehret and Madison Weiskittel, the $2,000 Carl and Delores Bartenstein Scholarships.
Also, Anthony Edelmann, the $1,000 AEF and the $1,000 Dorothy Kohlmeyer scholarships; Allison McCumons, the $1,000 Bill and Bonnie Elsass and the $500 Ehemann Family scholarships; Colin Wuebker, the $1,000 Berner and the $1,000 AEF scholarships; Nathan Poeppelman, the $1,000 Anna Civic Association and the $1,000 AEF scholarships; Elizabeth Bremke and Erin Bremke, the $1,500 Joyce Ailes Memorial Scholarships.
