Anna BOE closes school year

ANNA — Anna Local School’s Board of Education celebrated the conclusion of the school year by looking forward to the next one during their June 19 meeting.

The three principals all reported on the successful conclusion of the school year, including many accomplishments of Anna students. Elementary Principal John Holtzapple shared continued plans to host a Shelby Hills Preschool Unit next school year. Middle School Principal Cindy Endsley discussed the Jump Start to School program. High School Principal Joel Staudter explained plans to reorganize the front office staff.

Cathy Doseck, treasurer, presented modifications, supplemental and temporary appropriations and the board authorized the appropriations as presented. Doseck also reviewed the fiscal software conversion currently underway in the district.

Andy Bixler, superintendent, and Doseck reviewed school fees and lunch prices. The board took action to maintain the current school fees and lunch prices for the upcoming school year. The prices are currently $2.35 for the middle school, and $2.60 for the high school.

Bixler explained the current plan for hazardous material removal in the middle/high school building beginning July 5, namely asbestos floor tiles. He also discussed the progress of the swing building. Finally, Bixler reviewed the open enrollment process and data for the school. Anna has accepted 27 new students, 13 of which are enrolling in kindergarten.

In new business, the board acted on employment contracts, including hiring Pam Berning as the high school secretary, at an annual pay rate of $34,841.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:15 p.m. The next regular meeting of the Anna Local Schools Board of Education is set for July 10 at 6:30 p.m.
