LIMA — Christian singer and songwriter Jeremy Camp has been booked by the Allen County Fair Board to perform the 2017 Allen County Fair opening weekend at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 20.

“We were working with local promoters, looking for a second concert,” said Allen County Fair General Manager Bob Fricke. “We felt Jeremy Camp was a good fit for Sunday.”

According to the press release from the Allen County Fair, Camp has released 13 albums, two of them live. He was nominated for a Grammy in 2010 for the album “Speaking Louder Than Before” and has won five GMA Dove awards. He is from Lafayette, Indiana, and is the son of a pastor. He is also an ordained minister.

Many entertainers were considered for the Sunday concert, Fricke said. Camp was picked because he was the best of the choices.

“He seems relevant,” he said. “He seems to have a connection with all people.”

Fricke said they wanted to try something new, and Camp was it.

Country singers Dustin Lynch and Neal McCoy will be performing 8 p.m. Aug. 19.

Opening weekend will be all concerts this year, Fricke said.

“Usually our concerts fall on the last weekend of the fair,” he said. “This year we moved the concerts to opening weekend in order to get the acts we wanted.”

In addition to the concerts at the grandstand, the Allen County Fair will have local bands playing throughout the week on the plaza stage, Fricke said.
