WAPAKONETA — The Petersburg Parishes will host the presentation “Restoring Order and Human Dignity” on Sunday, Oct. 1, at 2 p.m. in the Adult Center of St. Joseph Church, Wapakoneta. The program is free and open to the public. Attendees should use the Blackhoof Street parking lot to access the Adult Center.

“Restoring Order and Human Dignity” is a presentation of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati’s Catholic Social Action Office that will help us look at immigration in the light of the church’s social teaching. Presenter Sister Tracy Kemme, of the Sisters of Charity, has a decade of experience working with immigration. She will offer a background on the teaching regarding immigration, based in scripture, papal statements, etc. She’ll provide an overview about what the immigration system looks like today and how it has changed. Most importantly, an immigrant from Guatemala will share her story and answer audience questions. Finally, the group will explore together how people of faith are called to respond to the immigration issue.

“Sister Tracy is a wonderful presenter and we’re confident the program will enhance our understanding of immigration, allowing us to address this complicated issue as Christians,” said Social Justice Commission member Rachel Barber.

The Petersburg Parishes of Botkins Immaculate Conception, Fryburg St. John, Rhine St. Lawrence, and Wapakoneta St. Joseph are named for the now-vanished Petersburg settlement (between Wapakoneta and Botkins) from which the parishes emerged in the 19th century.
