DAYTON — On Nov. 9, 2017, the Greater Dayton Area Faith Community Nurse/Health Ministers Network will hold its quarterly meeting from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Miami Valley Hospital South, Cancer Center Conference Room B, 2400 Miami Valley Drive, Dayton. The continuing education presentation “Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End” will be led by Kim Vesey, RN, CHPN, MS, chief mission officer at Ohio’s Hospice.

The group will see a viewing of the PBS documentary “Being Mortal.” The film features Boston surgeon and author, Dr. Atul Gawande as he discusses the patient-doctor relationship nearing the end of life. It demonstrates the many challenges physicians experience when talking about chronic illness and death in the practice of caring for those who are dying. Viewers also see the impact on patients and families as a result of how physicians handle these challenges. The presentation also includes time for group discussion and feedback on the documentary.

Two hours of continuing education is available for social workers, counselors and nurses. Pre-registration is required. For more information or to request a brochure contact the Good Samaritan Hospital Health Ministries Program, at 937-734-9452.
