Where is it safe?

With everything that is going on we may be asking ourselves where is it safe. We just had a church shooting that just took place in Southerland Springs, Texas. The church would be the last place we would think could be hit by such evil. The church should be a safe place. The church should be a holy place a place where everyone should fill welcomed and loved. People gather there to pray, read scripture and worship together. People gathering at a church isn’t harming anyone. Evil does not discriminate against anyone or anything. In scripture 1st Peter 5:8 we are given a warning. It says, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour”. We are seeing more and more senseless acts of evil and we are left wondering where is it safe.

The answer to this question is nowhere if we have put our trust in the things of this world. But There is a safe place if we have put our trust in Jesus Christ. You see because of my belief in Jesus I have a confidence in eternity. I no longer fear what man can do to me. My safe place is in Jesus my Lord and Savior. Scripture says in Romans 8:31 “What shall we say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” There is a confidence that comes with knowing Jesus Christ. Even if we lose our physical life we do not lose our spiritual eternal life. When the physical dies our spiritual eternal life just begins. 2nd Corinthians 5:8 says “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” Physical death cannot defeat us if we have asked Jesus to forgive us of our wrongs. We are no longer afraid of death we are actually longing to be with our Lord because this world is so messed up and broken.

Each of us need to make a choice on where we stand with Jesus because we are not guaranteed tomorrow. All you have to do is ask him to forgive you of all the wrongs in your life and desire to serve him as your Lord. Letting him lead instead of you wanting control all the time. Only when you do this will you find the safe place that you are looking for. Evil will exist in this world until Jesus cast the devil and anything else that has to do with evil into the lake fire. Even those of us that have put our trust in Jesus will face evil and persecution. I was encouraged by a devotion that I done today that was written by Craig Denison. Following are a few things he said that challenged me. I want to challenge you to do a few things so that you are prepared as well. One of the things we must do is pray for our enemies Matthew 5:44 says “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” The second thing we must do is defend ourselves Luke 11:21 says “When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his goods are safe.” We are allowed to protect ourselves. The third thing is when we have adversity let it be our testimony. 1st Peter 4:19 says “Let those who suffer according to God’s will entrust their souls to a faithful creator while doing good.” Find your safe place in Jesus and be wise by following the commands of scripture. By doing so you will find peace and Life.
