To the editor:

As chairperson for the Sidney Great Strides fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, I would like to express my appreciation to our team leaders and to all the families and friends who participated in the May 21 event at Tawawa Park.

Together our teams raised over $21,000 that will benefit the CF Foundation’s research and advancement towards a cure for CF. Teams participating included: Benjamin’s Buddies, Carter’s Crusaders, Megan and Vincent, The Force, Wyatt’s Warriors, Zane’s Soldiers and employees from Team Emerson.

Community fundraising events by the Sidney Great Strides teams will continue through December and we welcome everyone to follow our “Sidney Cystic Fibrosis Walk” Facebook page for additional fundraising event times/locations in the Sidney/Shelby County area.

Anyone wishing to contribute towards a Sidney Great Strides team may also donate online at http://greatstrides.cff.org .

We are thankful and blessed to live in such a generous community and wish to thank the following local businesses/organizations for contributing their services or in-kind donations which added to the enjoyment of the event participants: Kyle Winner and Michelle Harter from TAM 105.5, Shelby Co. Sheriff Color Guard; Fairlawn Choir; Anna Cheerleaders; Sidney Police Officer Mike McRill and mascot Safety Pup; Shelby County Animal Shelter and mascot Scarfie; Sidney Fire Department; Photographers Sheryl Ditmer, John Hemp, Elisha Korn and Cassie Bodner; All About Running, Piqua; Emerson Commercial and Residential Solutions, Sidney; Walgreens’ Sidney employees; Sidney Foodtown; Advance America, Sidney; Karoc Marathon/Pepsi, Dannon Co, Minster; Meijer, Troy; Northwood Elementary School; and Sidney First United Methodist Church. We also wish to thank the event planning committee and our volunteers with registration, food and fundraising tables for making this year’s event a wonderful success.

The mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is to cure cystic fibrosis and to provide all people with the disease the opportunity to lead full, productive lives by funding research and drug development, promoting individualized treatment and ensuring access to high-quality, specialized care. We are so proud of our team VIPs and their daily efforts to overcome cystic fibrosis. As we continue with faith and hope for a cure for this disease, we are encouraged to live in such a generous community which helps support and promote awareness and to make CF stand for “cure found” in the near future! Together we are making a difference!
