Steinke, Johnston lead the wayin Anna Rumbling Rocket 5K

Some of the 131 runners who took part in the Anna Rumbling Rocket 5K last weekend run the course through the community.

Jackson Center native and current Xenia resident Christina Johnson was the top female finisher in the Anna Rumbling Rockets 5K held during the Anna Homecoming last Saturday.

ANNA — The annual Anna Rumbling Rocket 5K run/walk was held during the Anna Homecoming last weekend, and 131 runners took part in the event that is part of the Shelby County 5K Tour. Eighty-six of the runners were female.

The overall winner was Derek Steinke, who finished in 17:46.5. Steinke is a 2014 Anna High graduate who now attends the University of Toledo.

Following him across the line was Brandon Christman in 18:27.8.

The top female finisher was Christina Johnston. She is a Jackson Center High School graduate who now lives in Xenia, and it was her second win of the season on the Tour. She was also the top female finisher in the Tiger Trot 5K in Jackson Center on May 30.

She crossed the line in 19:12.9, which put her fifth overall out of all runners. The runner-up female was 13-year-old Ana Adams in 23:05.2.

The next event in the 5K Tour takes place Saturday, the Houston 5K Classic.
