Wednesday roundup: Sidney beats Stebbins in 9 innings

SIDNEY — A night after losing to Piqua in extra innings, Sidney rallied to beat Stebbins in extra innings.

Alli Milanese hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to tie it up, then Madison Osborne hit a one-run single in the bottom of the ninth to end it and give the Yellow Jackets a 5-4 Greater Western Ohio Conference crossover victory on Wednesday.

Milanese was 2 for 2 at the plate with 2 RBIs and two runs. Naida Stephens and Hallie Westerbeck were both 2 for 4.

The teams were tied 3-3 after three innings. Stebbins scored one run in the top of the fifth before Milanese’s home run tied it.

BASEBALL

Lehman Catholic 9, Lima Central Catholic 3

The Cavaliers scored three runs in both the second and third innings to take control on their way to a nonconference victory on Wednesday in Sidney.

Lehman had eight hits and no errors while Central Catholic had five hits and three errors.

Drew Barhorst picked up the win. He pitched a complete game and gave up two earned runs on five hits and three walks. He had 12 strikeouts.

Bryce Kennedy had two hits and 2 RBIs. RJ Bertini also had 2 RBIs and Seth Roe and Mitchell Sollmann both scored two runs.

“It was a great team win against a very nice team and Drew was outstanding,” Lehman coach Dave King said.

Minster 4, Convoy Crestview 3

Trent Roetgerman laid down a suicide squeeze bunt with one out in the bottom of the seventh that scored Jack Heitbrink from third and gave the Wildcats a nonconference win over Crestview on Wednesday in Minster.

Minster scored two runs in the second while Crestview scored two in the third. The Wildcats scored one in the fourth and the Knights scored one in the fifth.

Heitbrink started the seventh with a single to right field, and he advanced to second base on a wild pitch while Noah Enneking was at the plate. Enneking hit a sacrifice bunt to move Heitbrink to third.

Minster had seven hits and three errors while Crestview had six hits and one error.

Jack Olberding picked up the win on the mound. He pitched 2 1/3 innings and gave up one hit. He had five strikeouts and three walks. Noah Enneking started and gave up one earned run on five hits and two walks in 4 1/3 innings with five strikeouts.

Olberding and Heitbrink were both 2 for 4 while Roetgerman was 2 for 3. Roetgerman also a hit a double.

BOYS TENNIS

Sidney 4, Bellefontaine 1

The Yellow Jackets won a nonconference match on Wednesday in Sidney.

Sidney had clean 6-0, 6-0 sweeps by Prem Dev, Grant Hoying and Akansh Mani at third singles. Broc Bey and Kazuma Okada lost 6-4, 6-3 at first doubles while TJ Leonard and Jersain Brux won 6-3, 6-4 at second doubles.

Valley View 5, Sidney 0

The Cavaliers lost a nonconference match on Wednesday in Germantown.

In singles, Max Schmiesing lost 6-0, 6-1; Josh George lost 6-0, 6-0 and Mikkel Alvarez lost 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles, Danny Lins and Sam Gilardi lost 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 and Cole Kramer and Sean Toner lost 6-2, 7-5.

“We were without two of our varsity players due to illness and a band concert so we played a lineup with kids where they play at sectionals and we were able to get Josh (George) and Mikkel (Alvarez) some varsity experience,” Lehman coach Tim Ungericht said. “Danny (Lins) and Sam (Gilardi) got some experience playing together and lost a close match to a team that is 13-3 on the season.”
