Staff report

FORT LORAMIE — The Fort Loramie Redskins lost their second in a row in baseball action Friday afternoon, falling at home to the Wapakoneta Redskins in non-league action, 5-0.

The loss left Fort Loramie at 1-2 on the season heading into a makeup game today at noon at Fairlawn. Wapak stayed unbeaten at 4-0.

“They have good pitching,” said Loramie coach Bill Sturwold. “When we did get the bat on the ball, it was right at somebody. But they really made some nice plays.”

The W-Redskins scored a run in the first and it stayed 1-0 through three innings. But Wapak then exploded for five runs in the fourth and Loramie was unable to recover.

The host Redskins managed only five singles off Wapak pitchers.

Houston 9, Ansonia 1

HOUSTON — The Houston Wildcats went to 2-1 on the season thanks to another pitching gem from Zach Jolly, who blanked the Ansonia Tigers on just three hits in a 9-1 verdict.

Jolly struck out 12 Ansonia hitters, giving him 21 strikeouts in two route-going performances so far this season.

The win gave the Wildcats a 2-2 record on the year.

The game was closer than the score indicates. Houston got three in the first two innings, but still led just 4-1 after five. But the Wildcats then tacked on five more runs in the sixth to pull away.

Howie Ludwig was 2 for 3 for Houston, scored twice and stole three bases. Andrew Miller was 2 for 2 and Jacob Gates 2 for 4. Nick Shoemaker scored three times and stole two bases, and both Dylan Hensley and Isaiah Beaver doubled and drove in two runs.
