SIDNEY — The Sidney High girls softball team broke a scoreless deadlock with three in the fifth and went on to beat Greenon 4-1 in non-league action Friday at Aschenbach Field.

The win evened Sidney’s record on the year at 1-1 with West Milton coming to town today for a doubleheader.

Conditions were difficult, with high winds making every play an adventure. It was scoreless after four-and-a-half, but the Lady Jackets finally broke through in the bottom of the fifth.

Hayden Spurgeon tripled in a run, then scored on a bunt single by Hayley Powers. After she was cut down stealing and the next batter struck out, Summer Inman smacked a solo home run for a 3-0 lead.

The Lady Jackets then added another run in the top of the seventh.

Grace Shell pitched a five-hitter for Sidney, striking out five.

Loramie 18, Fairlawn 1

SIDNEY — Fort Loramie scored 13 times in the first two innings and went on to whip Fairlawn 18-1 in County girls softball Friday afternoon.

The Lady Redskins go to 2-0 in the league and 3-0 overall. Fairlawn is now 0-2, both games in league play.

Fort Loramie got six in the first and seven in the second, and the game was well on its way to the 10-run rule. It ended after five innings.

Fort Loramie got two hits each from Abby Holthaus and Kristin Ratermann. Both of Raterman’s hits were doubles and resulted in her getting three runs batted in. Holthaus also drove in three and Holly Frey hads two RBIs. Kara Magoteaux and Hillary Benanzer both doubled.

Loramie pitchers Ratermann and Megan Koppin both pitched for Loramie and combined for 12 strikeouts, eight by Koppin in just three innings.

Jeanelee Branscum and Katie Bodiker both doubled for Fairlawn.
