Staff report

SIDNEY — Fairlawn is hosting the County Track Meet this week, and it got underway Wednesday night. High school finals were held in the 3200 relay as well as two girls field events and three boys field events.

When the first night was over, two meet records had fallen.

Defending Division 3 state pole vault champion Logan Konst cleared the bar at 15-feet, 7-inches, and Russia’s girls 3200 relay team of Shae Goubeaux, Molly Kearns, Megan Frazier and Grace York outdueled Botkins for first place and ran a 9:47.57 to set a new County meet record.

Botkins was second with a time of 9:50.56, and that put those two teams nearly a minute ahead of the rest of the field.

After the first night, Anna’s boys are comfortably ahead with 46 points to 18 for Houston. Anna also had wins in two other field events, with Nathan Osborne winning the discus at 142-3, and Blake Stephens the long jump at 19-8.5.

Fort Loramie won the boys 3200 relay with the team of Alan Holdheide, Joe Ballas, Jake Rethman and Tom Ballas. They finished in 8:14.17.

There were two girls field event finals, and in those, Grace Homan of Botkins won the shot put with an even 38-foot heave, and Caity Falls of Houston cleared 5 feet to take first in the high jump.

The Botkins girls lead with 26 points to Houston’s 20 going into tonight’s finals.
