Staff report

COVINGTON — Lehman saw its sectional tournament run come to an end Thursday thanks to running into top-seeded Covington in Division 4 semifinal action.

The Lady Cavs trailed just 2-1 after scoring in the fourth, but the Lady Buccs came back with four in the bottom of the inning and went on to win 8-1.

Lehman is now 12-10 and has one more conference game left to end the season, Saturday at Hardin Northern.

Covington goes to 20-3 and plays Russia in the sectional finals on Tuesday.

“They’re really good,” said Lehman coach Bill Booth. “We cut the lead to 2-1 in the fourth with our only run, but they got a couple of hits and we had a couple of errors, and they scored four times.”

And that made it difficult for the Lady Cavs to come back against Covington pitcher Brooke Gostomsky. She allowed just three hits and struck out 11 Lehman hitters.

Grace Brandt had a double in the fourth to drive in the only run of the game for Lehman.

For Covington, Gostomsky and Sarah Hubbard both singled and doubled, and Allison Babylon and Justice Warner both had two singles.
