MINSTER — The Minster Lady Wildcats captured the championship of their own invitational Saturday in high school volleyball action, winning three straight to up their record on the year to 10-6.

Minster beat Botkins to open the tournament, 25-19, 25-14, then defeated Covington 25-17, 25-11 to advance to the championship.

In the finals, they took on Marion Pleasant and it was a dandy match, the Lady Wildcats winning 24-26, 25-7, 27-25.

Jordyn Heitbrink led Minster at the net with 24 kills in the three matches. Paige Thobe and Rosie Westerbeck finished with 18 apiece and Carly Barhorst added 13.

Hayley Baumer finished the day with 68 assists, Westerbeck had six aces, Thobe five and Heitbrink four.

Paige Purdy led the defense with 44 digs, Westerbeck had 21, Heitbrink 15, Baumer 12 and Sara Ripploh 11.

Botkins went on to finish 1-2 in the tournament. The Lady Trojans also lost to West Liberty-Salem 25-21, 25-20, then beat Franklin-Monroe in the match for seventh place, 25-14, 22-25, 25-16.

Russia finished fifth and was 2-1 in the tournament. After losing to Ada 25-29, 25-14, the Lady Raiders came back to beat Franklin Monroe 25-10, 18-25, 25-20, and West Liberty in the match for fifth place 25-18, 20-25, 25-20.
