Edison men win thrilleron last-second 3-pointer

PIQUA — The Edison State men’s basketball team won its third game of the season with a 77-75 thriller over Miami-Hamilton on Friday night.

The Chargers are 3-0 and return to action Wednesday at Cedarville to face the school’s junior varsity team.

Down 75-74, the Chargers pushed the ball to midcourt and called a timeout with just 2.6 seconds remaining. The play went to Dae’Shawn Jackson, and he drained a three-pointer as time expired. It was the first lead for the Chargers all night.

Jackson led the way with 28 points for Edison. DeAnthony Griffin added 12 and AJ Hickman and Brian Hall scored 11 apiece. Jackson hit 7 of 9 from the free throw line.

Women

The Edison women’s basketball team coasted to an easy 85-51 victory over Miami-Hamilton for their second win in a row since an opening-game setback.

The Lady Chargers jumped to a 22-11 lead after a quarter, and though the lead was just 41-32 at the half, Edison held the hosts to just 19 points the entire second half.

Carly Buzzard had an impressive shooting night for the Lady Chargers. She finished with a game-high 24 points on 10-for-15 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the free throw line. She also added nine rebounds, seven on the offensive end, to finish just shy of a double-double.

Riley Culver did have a double-double, scoring 16 points and pulling down 13 rebounds. She also handed out five assists.

Brooke Hickey had 11 points, four assists and was perfect at the line in five attempts, and Lauren Monnin added 10 points and had four offensive rebounds.
