Lady Raiders win third straight

HOUSTON — The Russia Lady Raiders made it three in a row to start the season, winning at Houston in the County girls basketball opener Tuesday night 43-29.

Russia is now 1-0 and 3-0 and hosts Jackson Center Saturday. Houston is 0-1 and 0-3 and will play at Riverside Thursday in non-league play.

Russia jumped to a 13-2 lead after one period and was never threatened. Junior Cameo Wilson led a balanced attack with 13 points. Jenna Cordonnier added nine and Tiffany Hatcher eight.

Rebecca New had nine for the Lady Wildcats.

Loramie 39, Anna 30

FORT LORAMIE — In an early-season battle of two teams expected to challenge in the County race this season, Fort Loramie never trailed in defeating visiting Anna 39-30 in action Tuesday at Loramie.

Both teams are now 1-1, and it was the County opener for both.

The Lady Redskins opened up a 17-11 halftime lead and held on for the win.

Taylor Ratermann led Loramie with 12 points.

“I can’t say enough great things about Taylor Ratermann tonight,” said Loramie coach Carla Siegel. “She played extremely well, hitting two for four from beyond the arc, grabbing six rebounds and dishing out four assists. “Defense was key in this game and Kaitlyn Luebke and Reyan Frey had the monumental task of guarding Macy Huelskamp. Overall, our team effort on both sides of the court was huge.”

Sarah Stang had eight points and eight rebounds and Kaitlyn Luebke eight points and eight rebounds.

For Anna, Emily Aufderhaar had nine points.

Legacy Chr. 40, Lehman 30

XENIA — Lehman’s girls dropped to 0-2 to start the basketball season after falling 40-30 to Legacy Christian on the road Monday night in non-league play.

The Lady Cavs jumped out to a 12-7 lead after one quarter and maintained that one-point margin at the half. But the lead shrunk to just one after three quarters, and then Legacy outscored them 14-3 in the final eight minutes.

Senior Hannah Fogt had 13 points to lead the Lady Cavs, and Alanna O’Leary added eight. Fogt also pulled down seven rebounds and O’Leary handed out three assists.

Lehman struggled from the field, hitting just 11 of 37 shots for 30 percent.
