Lady Cavs win NWCC opener

RIDGEWAY — Lehman is still waiting to play its first home game of the season, but is off to a 3-1 start on the road after Thursday’s 3-0 win over Ridgemont in Northwest Central Conference volleyball action.

The Lady Cavs won easily 25-8, 25-14, 25-15 to go to 1-0 in the conference and 3-1 overall. They get their first taste of home today in the Lehman Invitational, starting with Adena at 9 a.m.

Against Ridgemont, Sidney Chapman had 15 kills and eight digs, Madeline Smith had 26 assists and four aces, Maddy McFarland contributed six kills, Marianne Hissong had four aces, and Allie Hall added four kills.

NK falls in five

NEW KNOXVILLE — New Knoxville’s Lady Rangers opened Midwest Athletic Conference play with a thriller, going five games before falling to St. Henry.

The scores were 25-15, 19-25, 23-25, 25-17, 15-8, and it kept St. Henry unbeaten on the year at 5-0.

The Lady Rangers are 0-1 in the MAC and 3-3 overall and are back in action Tuesday at Spencerville.

Madison Lammers pounded out 18 kills and added 13 digs and two ace serves for the Lady Rangers.

Kenzie Schroer dished out 40 assists and led the defense with 24 digs. Shayna Bierlein had seven kills and 11 digs, Rachel Leffel and Caitlin Lammers both had six kills, Abby Lageman had 20 digs and Serena Hostteter added 10 digs.

The Lady Ranger JV team won in three 27-29, 25-22, 25-22.

NB edges Minster

MINSTER — Backyard rivals Minster and New Bremen collided in MAC action at Minster Thursday and it went five games before the Lady Cardinals prevailed.

Minster won the first game 25-20, Bremen won the next two 25-22, 25-23, Minster won the fourth 25-20, and Bremen took the deciding game 15-12.

The loss left Minster at 0-1 in the MAC and 2-3 overall.

For Minster, Jordyn Heitbrink had 16 kills, Katie Wuebker 14 and Rosie Westerbeck 11. Hannah Schmitmeyer and Paige Thobe had seven total blocks apiece and Westerbeck six. Schmitmeyer had 19 digs, LeAnn Huelsman 17, Heitbrink 15 and Westerbeck 10. Hayley Baumer finished with 34 assists.

No stats were available for New Bremen.

BOYS GOLF

SIDNEY — Anna shot a 173 to Houston’s 190 in County boys golf action Thursday at Shelby Oaks.

Zach Watren of Anna was medalist with a 40, Marvin Platfoot had a 42, Ross Pulfer 44 and Ryan Smelewski 47.

Houston got a 44 from Tristin Stangel, a 46 from Zach McKee and a 48 from Deion Booher.

GIRLS SOCCER

Botkins ties 0-0

LIMA — The Botkins girls tied with Lima Catholic 0-0 in Western Ohio Soccer League action Thursday night at Lima.

The verdict left the Lady Trojans at 0-0-1 in the WOSL and 1-1-2 overall with Bethel coming to Botkins this morning.
