HOUSTON — The County Junior High boys basketball tournaments got underway on Saturday at Houston.

In 7th grade action, Botkins, Fairlawn and Anna all advanced to the semifinals.

No. 2 seeded Botkins beat Houston 43-13, with Jacob Pleiman scoring 15 points for the Trojans. Elijah Beaver had six for Houston.

Fairlawn edged Russia 34-32 behind 18 points from Dominic Davis. Aiden Shappie led Russia with nine.

And No. 1-seeded Anna defeated Jackson Center 35-23, with Brandon Axe scoring 15 for the Rockets. Carson Regula had nine for Jackson.

On Thursday, Anna meets Fort Loramie at 6, and Botkins plays Fairlawn at 7:15.

• In the 8th grade first round, top-seeded Fairlawn defeated Russia 60-19. Jackson Jones led Fairlawn with 15 and Drew Sherman led Russia with eight.

Botkins defeated Anna 41-33, with Commer Smock leading the Trojans with 14. Connor McKinney had nine for Anna.

And second-seeded Fort Loramie beat Houston 45-15. Deegan Meyer had 12 for Loramie and Logan Baltes five for Houston.

On Thursday, Loramie and Botkins meet at 6 and Fairlawn and Jackson Center at 7:15 in the semifinals.

The Midwest Athletic Conference’s 7th grade girls tournament is now in its semifinal stage after four games on Saturday.

New Knoxville beat Parkway 47-20 and Marion Local beat St. Henry 29-23. Those two teams will meet Tuesday at 5 p.m. in one semifinal.

New Bremen beat Versailles 40-26 and Coldwater beat Minster 34-25. Bremen and Coldewater will play Tuesday at 6:15 in the other semifinals.
