Cavs edge Bremen for 13th win

Lehman hosted New Bremen in high school baseball action Friday at Lehman and held on for a 7-5 victory in non-league action.

The win put the Cavaliers are 13-2 on the season with a league doubleheader today against Upper Scioto Valley starting at 11 a.m.

Bremen falls to 8-7.

Lehman got five runs in the fifth, but Bremen battled back within 5-3. The Cavs responded with two big insurance runs in the sixth.

Tyler Lachey had three singles for Lehman, Dylan Arnold singled, doubled, drove in three and scored twice, and Owen Smith had two hits.

For the Cardinals, Ryan Bertke singled and tripled, Grant Selby doubled and Luke Vonderhaar had two RBIs.

“It was a good game, with a lot of hitting,” said Lehman coach Dave King. “We needed those insurance runs in the sixth and we got them. Brandon Barhorst pitched well and that was big because we were trying to save our pitching for the doubleheader (Saturday). And we turned a couple double plays and got a couple pickoffs.”

Anna 19, Covington 4

COVINGTON — Anna rolled to an easy 19-4 win at Covington in non-league play.

The Rockets, now 10-4, got a single and a double from both Aidan Endsley and Seth Stiefel, a triple and four RBIs from Zach White, a double and three RBIs from Seth Roe, a double and three runs score from Caleb Kauffman, and a double from Colin Wuebker.

Nathan Frilling scored three times and drove in two and Jarred Seigle scored twice and drove in two.

Russia 5, Versailles 3

VERSAILLES — Russia edged Versailles 5-3 in a battle of two of the area’s top teams Friday at Versailles.

Russia goes to 12-3 and Versailles to 10-5 on the year.

Russia had eight hits by eight different players in the win, including doubles from Daril Lavy and Hunter Cohee.

Kurtis Rutschilling was 3-for-4 for Versailles with two runs scored and a double, and Kyle Subler had two hits.

Minster 13, McComb 2

MINSTER — Minster was expecting a big challenge Friday in a game added to the schedule against McComb, the No. 9-ranked team in Ohio in Division 4.

But the Wildcats broke open a 3-2 game in the fourth with five runs and added seven over the final three frames to win easily, 13-2, in non-league action.

The Wildcats go to 10-5 with the win and McComb drops to 10-3.

Minster catcher Ben Stubbs had a sensational day, going 5-for-5 with three doubles to lead a 14-hit attack. Alex Lehmkuhl was 3-for-4 with a double and Isaac Schmiesing was 2-for-4.

Indian Lake 16, Sidney 1

Sidney was no match at home for Indian Lake in non-league action Friday, losing 16-1.

The Jackets managed just three hits, two by Jack Feazel.

The Jackets are 5-13 heading into action at Bellefontaine today.
