Staff report

The Sidney High Lady Jackets went from 16 runs in their tournament opener on Monday to getting shut out in the Division 1 Sectional semifinals on Wednesday.

The Lady Jackets, the No. 14 seed, could muster just four hits and dropped a 4-0 verdict to No. 6 seed Springboro, which advances to the sectional finals Monday.

The Lady Jackets end their tournament run with a 13-14 record, but are scheduled to play at home Thursday against Wapakoneta to have a “senior day,” which was rained out earlier.

Grace Shell pitched well enough to win for the lady Jackets, allowing eight hits and posting six more strikeouts, giving her 178 on the season.

“We hit the ball hard, but every time it was right at somebody,” said Sidney coach Wade New. “Their centerfielder made to outstanding plays when we had runners in scoring position. We just couldn’t get the ball to find the grass.”

Maddie White had two of Sidney’s four hits, including a single and a double.
