Rangers sent Hoyingback to Round Rock

Fort Loramie native Jared Hoying’s latest stay in the big leagues lasted 24 games with the Texas Rangers before he was optioned a week ago to Class AAA Round Rock in Texas.

While with the big club, Hoying hit .242 with 13 hits in 62 at-bats, including a home run and six runs batted in.

Since rejoining the Round Rock club, Hoying is struggling at the plate, with three hits in 21 at-bats heading into Tuesday night’s action for a .142 average.

In his first game with Round Rock since rejoining the team, he was 1-for-3 with a run scored in a 4-1 win over Iowa. In his very next outing, he was 2-for-5 with a double and a home run, two runs scored and three driven in.

The latter game was deadlocked at 5-5 in the eighth inning when Hoying blasted a three-run homer, leading Round Rock to an 8-6 victory over Iowa.

Overall in 40 games this season at Round Rock, Hoying is now hitting .234 with eight homers and 26 RBIs.

Craig Stammen

Stammen, a Versailles High School graduate and North Star native, is pitching for the San Diego Padres and seeing lots of action.

A 12th-round pick of the Washington Nationals in 2005, Stammen has pitched in 26 games so far this season for the Padres. In 431/3 innings he has allowed 38 hits, 20 runs, and 19 earned runs

The all-time leader in strikeouts at the University of Dayton, Stammen has 42 strikeouts and 12 walks so far this season.

In the last seven days, he has two appearances and pitched 32/3 innings, allowing just one hit and two runs, both earned, for a 4.91 ERA. He struck out three and walked one
