Monday roundup: Lehman, Sidney girls tennis finish season with wins

NORTHRIDGE — Lehman Catholic closed out regular season play on Monday with a 5-0 win at Northridge.

In singles, Sarah Gibson won 6-0 and 6-1, Melanie Brunner won by two 6-0 scores and Claire Larger won by forfeit. Angela Brunner and Grace Brandt won 6-1 and 6-3 at first doubles, while Kiera Burns and Ann Pannapara won by two 6-2 scores at second doubles.

“It’s a nice way to end our regular season, ” Lehman coach Tim Ungericht said. “It’s the most wins we have had in a season since 2013. We are tied for tenth in the latest Dayton-area Division II rankings. That’s a testament to our tough schedule we have played and to our great results in invitationals this year. It has been a great bounce-back season.”

The Cavaliers finish regular season with a 4-13 record.

Sidney 5, Fairborn 0

Sidney beat the Skyhawks in lopsided fashion on Monday to close out regular season play.

Hailey New won 6-2 and 6-4 at first singles, Naomi Riegel won 6-0 and 6-3 at second singles and Madison Frank won 6-0 and 6-0 at third singles. In doubles, Auanna Edens and Caroline Gallimore won 6-3 and 6-2 and Mara Hecht and Zoe Crist won 6-3 and 6-0.

The Yellow Jackets finish regular season with an 11-10 record. They were fifth in the six-team Greater Western Ohio Conference American North Division with a 6-4 record.

Sidney plays in the Division I sectionals on Wednesday at Troy.

Girls Soccer

Anna 1, West Liberty-Salem 0

Taylor Noll scored a goal off an assist by Abby Gaydosh to lift Anna to a win over the Tigers on the road on Monday. It was the first loss of the season for West Liberty-Salem (12-1), while Anna improved to 13-0 with the win.

Goalie Savanna Hostetler had 10 saves in the shutout.

West Liberty-Salem is ranked third in Division III in the Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association, while Anna isn’t ranked. The Tigers travel to Lehman Catholic (10-3-1) on Thursday. The Cavaliers are ranked ninth in Div. III.

Thursday’s game is big in the Western Ohio Soccer League soccer race. Anna is in first place in the WOSL with a 7-0 record, while Lehman is close behind at 6-0.

Volleyball

Anna 3, Wapakoneta 0

Anna beat Wapakoneta 25-23, 25-8 and 25-19 on Monday in a nonconference match.

Emma Meyer led the Rockets with 14 kills while Ashley Landis had nine kills and Macy Wiktorowski had eight kills. Lexi Wells led the team with 35 assists, while Abby Counts led Anna with 13 digs. Carly Becker had 11 digs and Wells and Rachel Shoemaker had six digs each. Meyer had six blocks assists and Wiktorowski had four block assists.

Minster 3, Houston 0

Minster beat Houston 25-20, 27-25 and 25-12 on Monday.

Paige Thobe had 20 kills for Minster, while Regan Wuebker had eight kills and Taylor Kogge and six kills. Thobe and Wuebker each had five blocks. Brooke Wolf led the team with 43 assists, and Emily Stubbs had a team-high 16 digs.

Olivia Bowser had 17 digs for Houston, while Hannah Bixler had 13 digs. Alyssa Kemp led the team with five kills and had 10 digs and 20 assists.
