Roundup: Sidney’s Lindsey, Noble advance to district golf

SPRINGFIELD — Sidney’s Jared Lindsey and Kyle Noble each qualified as individuals for the district golf tournament on Tuesday during the Division I sectional at Reid Park.

Lindsey shot an 83 and finished seventh overall in the sectional, which earned him the third individual qualifying spot. Noble had an 86 and finished ninth overall, which earned him the fourth individual qualifying spot. The top four teams in the sectional advance to districts, as do the top four individuals not on a qualifying team.

Sidney finished seventh out of 14 teams in the sectional with a 376, one stroke more than No. 6 Wilmington and two strokes more than No. 5 Springfield. Aside from Lindsey and Noble, Spencer Karn shot a 102 and Ben Spangler shot a 105.

Lindsey and Noble will play in the Div. I district tournament next Thursday at Glenview Golf Course in Cincinnati.

Lehman, Fischio see seasons end in districts

Lehman Catholic and Botkins’ Nick Fischio had good showings in the Div. III district tournament at Glenview on Wednesday but missed qualifying for the state tournament.

Lehman Catholic finished fourth out of 12 teams with a 355, while Fischio tied for fourth individually with a 76. The top two teams qualify for regionals, as do the top two individuals not on a qualifying team.

The Cavaliers were 11 strokes behind second place Seven Hills and 12 strokes behind first place Cincinnati Country Day. Fischio was three strokes behind Southeastern’s Avery Green and Twin Valley South’s Nathan Osborn, who earned the two qualifying individual spots.

Tyler Lachey led Lehman with a 79 on Wednesday. Ryan Schmidt had an 84, Cole Gilardi had a 90, and Mike Rossman had a 102.

Girls Golf

Versailles girls qualify for state

Versailles girls golf team finished third out of 12 teams in the Div. II district tournament at PipeStone Golf Course in Miamisburg to earn a spot in the state tournament.

The Tigers shot a 391 to earn the last of three team qualifying spots. Lauren Durham led Versailles with a 91, while Morgan Heitkamp had a 97, Jorja Pothast had a 99 and Anna Groff had a 104.

Versailles will play in the state tournament at Ohio State’s Gray Course next Friday.

Fort Loramie finished 12th out of 14 teams. Amy Eilerman and Rylee Poeppelman both led the Redskins with 106, while Grace Ruhenkamp had a 108 and Riley Middenforf had a 116.

Riverside’s Dana Jones had a 98 and finished 23rd out of 69 girls.

Girls Tennis

No Sidney players advance

No players on Sidney’s girls tennis team advanced out of the the Division I sectionals on Wednesday in Troy. Hailey New won two singles matches to advance to the semifinals but lost to Greenville’s Natalie Milligan 6-1 and 6-0.

Naomi Riegel lost a first-round match to Trotwood 6-4 and 6-4. Madison Frank won a first-round match against Tecumseh 6-3 and 6-0 and lost a second-round match to Butler 6-1 and 6-0.

Auanna Edens and Caroline Gallimore lost to Wayne 6-3 and 6-4 in doubles, while Mara Hecht and Sara Gibson beat Stebbins 6-1 and 6-1 and lost to Troy 7-5 and 6-1.
