SIDNEY — A pair of Sidney High School star football players both committed to Division I college programs within 24 hours of one another.

Friday, record-setting running back Isaiah Bowser made a verbal commitment to Northwestern University, while defensive lineman Devan Rogers committed to the University of Toledo Saturday. Both made their announcements on their Twitter accounts. Both will be seniors at Sidney this fall and will officially sign their national letters of intent in February 2018.

Bowse announced on Twitter: “First I would like to say a huge thanks to my family, coaches, and teammates who helped me reach this point in my life! Without them none f this would have been possible. Also I’d like to say thank to all of the coaches and schools I have been blessed to be recruited by throughout these past couple years. Finally, I would like to close my recruitment and announce I am 100% committed to continue my education and football career at….. Northwestern University. #B1GCATS #NUViews18 #JGD”

Rogers made his announcement on Twitter via a video that showed him working out, highlights from games and him finally pulling off a Sidney football jersedy to reveal a University of Toledo T-shirt underneath. In his video, Rogers said: “I would like to thank all of the college coaches who recruited me and have given me wonderful opportunities. For the next four to five years, I will be following my father’s footsteps and will be attending … the University of Toledo. Go Rockets!”

Bowser had a breakout season last fall, setting numerous school records in the process. He rushed for a school-record 1,877 yards, but that was just one of a host of records the 6-0, 200-pounder set. The others include most carries in a game (42), most carries in a season (299), longest run from scrimmage (98 yards vs. Dayton Carroll), rushing touchdowns in a season (28), total touchdowns in a season (31) and points in a season (188).

He rushed for more than 100 yards in nine games and more than 200 yards in five games. He also had eight receptions for 155 yards and two touchdowns. He also played linebacker on defense, recording 37 tackles, two forced fumbles and an interception he returned 67 yards for a touchdown.

For his efforts, Bowser was named All-Greater Western Ohio Conference, first-team All-GWOC American League North Division and second-team Division II All-Southwest District.

As a junior, Bowser had 155 carries for 910 yards and 11 touchdowns, while pulling in 11 passes for 220 yards and a touchdown. On defense, he had 32 tackles and an interceptions.

The 6-foot-2, 285-pound Rogers finished his junior season with 108 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. As a sophomore, he had 63 tackles, four sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. As a freshman he had 41 tackles and two fumbles recoveries.

As a junior, Rogers was named first-team All-GWOC American League North and Division II All-Southwest Distrit honorable mention.

The recruiting website 247sports.com had Bowswer listed as the N0. 59 running back in the nation and the No. 41 overall senior prospect in Ohio. He had offers from essentially every Mid-American Conference school, along with offers from several service academies and Ivy League schools.

Rogers was named the No. 112 defensive tackle in the nation and the No. 64 overall senior prospect in Ohio by 247sports.com. He had offers from pretty much every Mid-American Conference school, along with offers from Rutgers, Syracuse and Iowa State.
