SIDNEY — Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, 4th District, spoke at NFIB of Shelby/Auglaize Area Action Council’s quarterly breakfast meeting Monday at Dickman Supply Co. He addressed healthcare and tax reform, and the current state of the 115th Congress.

“When we act like us, we win, when we act like them we lose,” Jordan said. “Right now, we aren’t acting like Republicans.”

Roger Geiger, NFIB-Ohio vice president and executive director, introduced Jordan to the 22 gathered business people.

“When Congressman Jordan is on Capital hill, it’s not NFIB he’s thinking of, it’s all of you,” he said. “This is your opportunity to talk about what’s on your mind.”

The congressman expressed his support of President Donald Trump, calling for more support from Republicans of the president.

“We met with the president six months ago, Mark Meadows (R-Ohio, 11th district) and myself,” Jordan said. “When you’re around the president, you cannot help but like this guy. You sense his passion for the country, and there’s things we disagree with, but this guy genuinely cares about exactly what his campaign slogan was – making America great again.”

Jordan continued to express his disapproval of Hillary Clinton.

“We introduced a resolution calling for a special council looking into potential Russian influence in the election,” Jordan said. “The American people deserve the truth on everything that happened last year.”

He explained that the Judiciary Committee, of which he is a member, has requested documents on Clinton, James Comey, Loretta Lynch, the Clinton Foundation, Fusion GPS and Cheryl Mills’ immunity deal.

“Why would the Attorney General tell the FBI Director to call the Clinton Investigation a matter not an investigation?” Jordan asked. “(Comey) told the American people something that he knew was not true.”

Jordan spoke on health care reform, which has been a battle in the current congress.

“Six United States Republican Senators voted against the very legislature they all supported eighteen months ago,” he said. “Same bill, same sentences, same punctuation.”

He further explained his frustration with health care reform, saying that the legislature voted on was not what Republicans campaigned on.

“What our leadership decided to do what take elements of repeal, elements of replace, and mash it all together,” he said. “When you do that, by definition, you make it so no Democrat will help you pass the legislation, because Democrats view Obamacare as the most sacred piece of legislation in history.”

He discussed tax reform, calling the tax code a mess and saying that the country needs to reach 3 percent growth rate to help deal with the United States’ $19.9 trillion debt.

“Tax reform needs to happen and welfare reform needs to happen. You cannot deal with that huge debt burden unless you have better growth,” he said. “Guys like you say every single visit that you can’t find people to work. The only way we’ll be able to grow at the rate we need is to fix the labor supply issue.”

Geiger presented awards on behalf of NFIB to two members; Linda Luebke from the Axis Corporation, who has been a member for 20 years, and Danny Sollmann from Sollmann Electric Co., who has been a member for 35 years.
