Small plane with 3 aboard crashes near Catalina airport

AVALON, Calif. (AP) — Officials say a small plane with three people aboard has crashed near the airport on Santa Catalina Island in Southern California. There is no immediate word on the conditions of those on board.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor tells The Associated Press the Cessna 172 that had taken off from Long Beach Airport crashed under unknown circumstances at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
