YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) — Hundreds of people have questioned changes at a Youngstown metro park system including the abrupt firing of 13 employees.
A group organized against the changes is calling for the resignation of Mill Creek MetroParks executive director Aaron Young.
Young announced an internal reorganization last month to save $13.2 million over the next 15 years for capital improvements. The move included the dismissal of 13 employees.
The Vindicator reports (http://bit.ly/1YrlKle ) more than 200 people attended a meeting Monday night to express concerns at the changes.
Some expressed frustration that the cuts came after the park won renewal of a 15-year operating levy paired with an additional levy for capital improvements.
Young has said the reorganization was part of a plan to ensure the park system’s long-term viability.
