Ohio man convicted in 19-month-old boy’s beating death

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio prosecutor says a Dayton man has been found guilty of the beating death of a 19-month-old boy.

Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr. says 28-year-old Dustin Rybak was convicted Friday of involuntary manslaughter and other charges in the 2013 death of Takota Hasty.

Heck says the baby was brought to the hospital April 7, 2013, and wasn’t breathing; he had numerous bruises, abrasions and burn marks. He died the next day. An autopsy determined he died from blunt force trauma to the head and neck.

Heck says Rybak and the boy’s mother, Crystal Laurel, were arrested and she pleaded guilty in September 2013 to numerous charges, including involuntary manslaughter. She has not yet been sentenced.

Rybak is to be sentenced March 31 to 18 years in prison.
