Akron police shoot suspect in Humane Society officer attack

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Akron police say an officer has shot and wounded a man suspected of attacking a Humane Society officer with a knife.

An Akron police spokesman says the shooting occurred around 2 p.m. Monday. The spokesman says the Humane Society officer is beating treated for cuts while the alleged attacker is in serious condition after being shot in the abdomen.

Lt. Rick Edwards says the attack occurred after the Humane Society officer had pulled over to make a phone call. Edwards says the 33-year-old suspect approached the van and attacked the Humane Society after the officer opened the door to ask the suspect if he needed anything.

The spokesman says a police officer who responded to the scene shot the suspect after a stun gun had no apparent effect on him.
