CINCINNATI (AP) — University of Cincinnati officials have confirmed that a contract worker was killed while performing maintenance on an elevator in the school’s Medical Sciences building.
UC Public Information Officer Michele Ralston says the worker was found dead at the Eden Avenue building around 4:30 p.m. Friday. Investigators believe the death was accidental but didn’t immediately release a cause of death.
Authorities have not identified the victim. The worker was employed by an outside company hired by the university.
Ralston says it’s unclear whether the worker was performing specialized or routine maintenance on the elevator.
The Medical Sciences building remains open for regular business and school activities, but its elevators will be out of service throughout the weekend.
The University of Cincinnati Police Department is leading the investigation.
