Police: Ohio worker tried to slap robber’s gun, was shot

CLEVELAND (AP) — Police in Cleveland say a convenience store employee was killed during a robbery when he tried to slap away a robber’s gun and it fired, hitting him in the chest.

Police say the robber had pointed a gun at 44-year-old Marwan Zahriyeh and demanded money in a store in the Mt. Pleasant neighborhood on Monday night. The North Olmsted man was taken to a hospital and later died.

Authorities say the robber ran from the scene. The robbery and shooting remain under investigation.
