AMISH BUGGY SAFETY

CONGRESS — Members of an especially conservative Amish group in northeast Ohio are adding more reflective features to their black, horse-drawn buggies to increase visibility after some serious crashes. SENT: 130 words. UPCOMING: 250 words by 4 p.m., pursuing photo.

IN BRIEF:

— TANKER CRASH-EXPLOSION: Part of Interstate 75 in Ohio could be closed for days after police say a car going the wrong direction crashed into a truck carrying gasoline, sparking a huge fireball and killing one person.

— WHEAT DECLINE: Ohio farmers are following a national trend by planting the fewest acres of wheat in state history but are expected to plant a record amount of soybeans this year.

— INMATE DEATH: Officials say a Sandusky County jail inmate died days after he was found hanging in his cell.

— GAS PRICES-OHIO: Gas prices around Ohio are down compared with a week ago, leaving them near where they were at this time last year.

— NUXHALL MLURAL: The “Ol’ Lefthander,” Joe Nuxhall, is being honored with a vibrant mural on the side of a Hamilton sporting goods store.

— UNIVERSITY-HOLIDAY SHUTDOWN: The University of Toledo in Ohio will close campus buildings during the winter holidays.
