Band plans colorful concert

SIDNEY — The Sidney Civic Band has planned a “Somewhere over the Rainbow Concert” for Friday, June 19, at 7 p.m. on the courtsquare.

“This concert is all about color,” said Director Phil Chilcote. “One of our patrons suggested a concert where every song title included a color. Loved the idea, but it was a challenge to assemble the music. That being said, this will be a fun concert with different types of music and a few surprises along the way.”

The second concert of the season will highlight a potpourri of musical styles. The color blue is very popular; about a third of the concert will feature blue in the title. Styles include marches, ballads, medleys and dance music. Concertgoers will enjoy themed decorations that the Civic Band production crew has created. Patrons are encouraged to dress for the occasion; there will be a prize for the most colorfully dressed person.

Solo vocalist Carol Palmer will join the band to sing a number of tunes, and sax soloist J.R. Price will be featured, as well.

Refreshments will be available for purchase from Connection Point Church of God Relay for Life team, beginning 30 minutes prior to the concert. A Spot pie will be given away to the winner of the Spot Pie Question, and a tray of baked goods from Sidney’s Bob Evans’ restaurant will also go to a lucky fan.

Take lawn chairs. Admission is free.

In case of rain, the concert will be at Connection Point Church of God, 1510 Campbell Road.
