WEST HAVEN, Conn. — Tyler Schlagetter, of Sidney, Ohio, a sophomore majoring in Forensic Science and Biochemistry will be participating in the University of New Haven’s Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF).

Schlagetter will be completing a project with Claire Glynn. This project will involve the use of a technique called Raman spectroscopy for its application to body fluid identification within the forensic science field. This technique will pass a laser light through a sample to obtain information about its identity and to determine if multiple body fluids in a sample can be identified separately.

“Following graduation, I would like to either go on to work in a crime lab, or continue on in academic research to improve the field” he said.

The University of New Haven is a private, top-tier comprehensive institution recognized as a national leader in experiential education. Founded in 1920 the university enrolls approximately 1,800 graduate students and more than 4,600 undergraduates.
