Versailles school board approves contracts

VERSAILLES — The Versailles Board of Education approved numerous contracts at its recent meeting.

A contract status change for Doug Giere from “Bachelors 150” to “Masters” effective with the beginning of the 2015-16 school year was approved, and Nichole Hackett was hired for summer school intervention for the summer of 2015.

The board also granted the following supplemental contracts for extended days of service: Hollie Ahrens, high school guidance, two additional days for the 2014-15 school year; Brittany Harman, Seclusion and Restraint Training, four days for the 2015-16 school year; and Ronda Stammen, band, eight additional days for the 2015-16 school year.

Sandy Mangen was approved as a summer school intervention aide and Fred Borchers and JoAnn Wagner for summer school intervention bus driving for this summer.

Supplemental contracts were granted to Doug Giere (athletic director), Pete DiSalvo (head boys golf coach), Karla Frilling (head girls volleyball coach), Joe Harrmann (head girls golf coach), Adam Miller (head football coach), Mark Pleiman (head cross country coach), Ronda Stammen (marching band director), Jason Ahrens (assistant cross country coach), Jason Anthony (junior high football coach), Steve Bey (junior high football coach), Jodie Bohman (head cheerleading adviser), Robin Brown (Color Guard director), Kenzie Bruggeman (assistant volleyball coach), Doug Giere (assistant football coach), Mandy Graves (assistant cross country coach), Jon Keihl (junior high football coach), Danielle Langston (freshman volleyball coach), Jaclyn Lawrence (high school football cheerleading adviser), Steve Liette (junior high football coach), Craig Prenger (assistant football coach), Amanda Reed (junior high football cheer adviser), Nick Rhoades (assistant football coach), Ryan Robe (assistant marching band director), Liz Schmitmeyer (junior high volleyball coach), Kelly Smith (junior high volleyball coach), Bob Stammen (assistant football coach) and Tim Summers (assistant athletic director ) for the 2015-16 school year.

Chad Marshall (football), Eric Rhoades (football), Zach Sudhoff (football), Dave Stonebraker (boys golf), Trent Thompson (football), Stephen Winner (football), and Tara Winner (volleyball) were approved as volunteer coaches in the sports noted for the 2015-16 school year.

The board approved Aaron Mangen, Jon Moorman, Kami Ording, Cole Schlater and Camille Watren for 90 hours combined a week with the other approved student workers for summer student custodial and computer maintenance, with salary at minimum wage, on an as-needed basis beginning June 1.

Molly DeMange and Karen Eilerman were granted one-year contracts as hourly cooks beginning with the 2015-16 school year.

The following are salary increases and bonuses for classified staff that were approved beginning with the 2015-16 school year: a one-time bonus of $500 for part-time employees (under 30 hours/week); a one-time bonus of $1,000 for full-time employees (30 hours/week or more); and a 2 percent salary increase each year for the 2015-16, 2016-17 and the 2017-18 school years.

The board awarded one-year contracts to Mara Alexander as a title reading teacher at Versailles Elementary School; Susan Pallone as an intervention specialist teacher at Versailles Schools; and Zach Sudhoff as an intervention specialist teacher at Versailles High School for the 2015-16 school year.

Administrators Brenda Braun, Roger McEldowney and Jeanne Osterfeld were approved to receive a 1 percent salary increase, a one-time 2 percent salary bonus, and a 1 percent increase in retirement pickup effective Aug. 1, this year, and for Ken Moorman to receive a 2 percent salary increase and a one-time 2 percent salary bonus, also effective Aug. 1.

In other matters, the board:

• Accepted with appreciation $350 from the Versailles FFA Alumni Association, $400 from the Ohio FFA Alumni Association, and $1,600 from the Ohio FFA Foundation, Inc. to the Versailles FFA

• Approved a general services agreement with the Metropolitan Dayton Educational Cooperative Association for computer services for July 1, 2015, through June 30, 2016, with estimated costs at $28,917.35

• Approved an agreement with Ohio Light & Sound to provide technical director services with technical, management and administrative responsibilities for Versailles Performing Arts Center and other Versailles Schools facilities including, but not limited to, cafetorium, gymnasiums and athletic fields, as agreed upon, for one year beginning July 1, 2015, and expiring at midnight on June 30, 2016.

The board discussed how board policy IJA requires development of a career-focused program for at-risk youth. This is state-mandated. A resolution must be passed at the July meeting in order to receive the state waiver. Additional approval must be granted by the Versailles Education Association before Aug. 1, also. The superintendent would like to meet with a committee of board members to review building use and associated policies for the next school year.
