WAPAKONETA —A St. Marys man has been arrested on sex charges following an investigation that began in Virginia.

Detectives with the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office were contacted by authorities from Buchanan County Virginia and asked to arrest a subject living in Auglaize County on a warrant for computer solicitation of a minor under the age of 15. The charges stem from an ongoing investigation by Virginia Law Enforcement.

John A. Wachauf, age 58 was taken into custody Monday on the warrant from Virginia without incident at his home at 16920 State Route 116 in St. Marys. A search warrant was also executed on the residence in search of computers and related equipment.

Other items found at the residence during the execution of the search warrant are being investigated for additional charges here, in Auglaize County. One of the items located that may result in local charges is approximately 20 pounds of suspected marijuana.

Detectives were assisted by Allen County Sheriff’s Office and Lima Police investigators with the arrest and search. These investigators work specifically with electronic media searches and equipment. The Auglaize/Mercer County Grand Lake Drug Task Force also assisted with the search of the residence.

Wachauf remains in the Auglaize County Correctional Center waiting extradition to Virginia.
