COLUMBUS — The superintendent of Upper Valley Career Center, Dr. Nancy Luce, was awarded as the Administrator of the Year by the Ohio Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) on Monday.

Luce received the award at the 2015 Connections to Education Conference Kick-Off Networking Session in Columbus. This recognition, as a result, put Luce in the running for the ACTE Region I Excellence Award 2015. She was notified in June to receive that honor on Nov. 19 at the National ACTE Conference in New Orleans.

Luce was honored for being seen as an area leader by creating partnerships within the community that help to continue career tech education for students, making articulation agreements, and connecting with two- and four-year colleges with the school.

“This award is a reflection of the contributions of the board, the staff, and the advisory members and the successes of our students,” Luce said in an email. “I was deeply honored to receive this award on behalf of a very caring and dedicated organization. We are blessed with a ‘culture of leaders’ who are student-focused, and who believe strongly in the value and impact of career and technical education.”

Luce has served as superintendent to UVCC since 2008 and served as the executive director at the Delaware Area Career Center prior to UVCC and also served as director of student, parent and community services, director of pupil services, director of special education, and coordinator of special education at Delaware City School.

Executive Director of UVCC Jason Haak expressed appreciation of Luce’s achievement.

“Dr. Luce is a consummate professional who has dedicated her entire professional career to the betterment of students, especially young adults in career technical education,” Haak said. “This award is well deserved. Her commitment to the mission of career technical education and the staff and students at Upper Valley Career Center is second to none.”

“My experience with Dr. Luce has been one of growing respect,” said Andy Hite, board president. “During her time here, Upper Valley has faced many challenges as we have moved to meet the needs of area employers. Every change that Dr. Luce has proposed and implemented has been well thought through in terms of impact on students, staff, area schools, and local industries. We are most fortunate to have Dr. Luce as our superintendent.”
