Staff report

The Associated Press came out with its first state rankings for boys basketball, and the 11-1 Jackson Center Tigers are ranked No. 6 in Division 4.

The rankings are compiled from votes by a panel of sports writers and broadcasters from around Ohio.

“I’m appreciative of the fact that our program is to the point where we have some respect,” said Jackson head coach Scott Elchert.

The Russia Raiders, meanwhile, are just one spot and seven voting points out of the top 10, standing in 11th place this week. They are 11-2 on the season.

In Division 3, the Versailles Tigers are the No. 7-ranked team in Ohio this week. They are 10-2 so far this season.

At the top of Division 1 are two schools from the area. The Wayne Warriors of the Greater Western Ohio Conference are the No. 1-ranked team in the state and Lima Senior is right behind them in second spot. Wayne is the defending big-school state champion.

And in Division 2, Trotwood-Madison, also a GWOC school, is ranked 12th.
