Fatal fire still under investigation

SIDNEY — The cause of a fire that claimed two lives last week is still under investigation, according to a press release sent out Friday afternoon.

The Sidney Fire Investigation Unit and the State Fire Marshal’s fire investigators are diligently working through the investigation process, it said. The Shelby County Coroner’s Office is also currently awaiting results of the autopsy from the Miami Valley Coroner office.

On April 21, 2016, at 2:30 a.m., the Sidney Fire Department responded to 519 W. North St. on a report of a house fire with victims trapped. The house was a two-story single-family residence. Tragically, two of the victims lost their lives. Two adult males were rescued from the fire.

The structure and contents were a total loss.

Fire Crews from Anna and Lockington as well as all off-duty Sidney Fire personnel assisted with fire suppression. Port Jefferson EMS and Anna EMS assisted with medical care/treatment and transportation from the scene during the incident.
